Not had an eye examination in while?
At Sight Masters we believe that having an eye examination is not about purchasing really expensive spectacles. Rather, it's all about making sure your eyes are healthy!
If it's been a while since your last eye test, we recommend you get in touch sooner rather than later. Remember, your eye exam can check for more than just your vision. Other potential health concerns can also be detected, which we will forward to your local hospital for further analysis, should it be required.
What will your eye test at Sight Masters involve?
Eye pressure check:
A puff of air is directed into each eye to ensure a healthy eye pressure.
Visual field test
The visual field test is where we map out your peripheral vision and check you have no vision loss beyond your central vision.
Ophthalmoscopy:
Your optometrist will assess the back of your eyes with a handheld device, which has a light with a strong magnifier. The aim is to verify the health of your retinas.
Slit lamp assessment:
A slit-lamp is a very powerful microscope which is used in conjunction with a Volk lens (high-powered magnification lens). We will look at the anterior surface of the eye to check for any aberrations or abnormalities on the front of the eye, especially if you are a regular contact lens wearer.
Refraction (vision test):
This part of the eye examination is where we ask you to read the letters on a chart without and then with spectacles. We will also determine whether your vision can be improved, by putting a lens in front of the eye. This is conducted by an optometrist using a phoropter head.
Lifestyle and visual analysis:
At this point, your optometrist will ask you questions about your current spectacles as well as your lifestyle requirements. This allows us to make accurate recommendations on the eyewear that would be best suited to your needs.
